The DJI Avata 2 Intelligent Flight Battery is rated for up to 23 minutes, but that is a maximum measured from a full battery to depletion under controlled conditions. For normal session planning, about 16 to 18 minutes per healthy pack is a more useful starting point because it leaves a 20% to 30% reserve. Wind, aggressive flying, temperature, battery age, and time spent lining up a shot can reduce that further.

Quick answer: Buy two batteries for short, casual outings and three for the best all-around Avata 2 setup. One battery is workable if every session is brief and charging between flights is convenient. DJI lists an approximate maximum flight time of 23 minutes for Avata 2. That number is useful for comparing the platform with other aircraft, but it is not a promise that every flight will last 23 minutes. DJI measured it in a windless environment at sea level while the aircraft flew forward at a constant 21.6 kph until battery depletion. DJI also lists about 21 minutes of maximum hover time under controlled conditions.

A real flight includes takeoff, positioning, turns, climbs, accelerations, hovering, and a return margin. The battery percentage also continues falling while the pilot chooses a landing spot. Treating 23 minutes as a scheduled landing time leaves no room for those variables.

Realistic usable flight-time planning

A reserve-based calculation gives a safer and more repeatable way to plan an outing. Start with DJI's 23-minute maximum and choose the percentage you do not intend to use in the air. This is only arithmetic: it does not attempt to predict the precise low-battery warning, forced-landing behavior, or battery percentage at which every pilot should land.

  • Aggressive flying: Frequent acceleration, climbing, and rapid direction changes raise power demand.

Battery count should follow the length of the outing, not the longest theoretical single flight. If you normally film for an hour at one location, three batteries create a workable rhythm. If the aircraft comes out for one quick line in the backyard, a second pack may be enough. Because the hub charges sequentially rather than simultaneously, three fully depleted packs would take about 135 minutes to reach 100% if each required DJI's 45-minute estimate. That 135-minute figure is FPV Drone arithmetic, not a separately published DJI three-pack result. Batteries that return with some charge remaining will need less time, while temperature, charger output, and the final slow portion of a charge can change the total.

A USB Power Delivery charger is the most flexible choice. DJI recommends its 65W Portable Charger, its 65W Car Charger, or another USB PD charger. A lower-power source may still be useful, but it cannot reproduce the fastest published hub time. Check both the charger's rated output and the cable, since the power path is limited by the weakest component.

How the DJI Avata 2 Two-Way Charging Hub works

The three bays do not make the hub a simultaneous three-battery charger. Instead, it identifies the battery with the highest state of charge, finishes that one first, and then moves to the next. This order gets one flyable pack ready sooner than a lowest-first system would.

  3. After each flight, allow the battery to return to DJI's 5°C to 40°C charging range.
  4. Place used packs in a separate side of the bag or rotate their orientation so they cannot be confused with full ones.
  5. At home, load the hub and let the highest-charge battery finish first.
  6. Before storage, remove damaged or swollen packs from service and avoid leaving every battery at 100% for long periods.

The hub is designed specifically for the Avata 2 Intelligent Flight Battery. Do not assume an original DJI Avata battery, an original Avata hub, or a generic hobby charger is compatible simply because the aircraft names are similar.

One-battery bundle or three-battery bundle?

The one-battery route is defensible when the Avata 2 will be flown occasionally, near home, and for short sessions. It keeps the initial purchase smaller and lets the aircraft charge directly through USB-C. The three-battery route is usually the cleaner ownership setup. It provides roughly three times the planned field time and pairs naturally with the three-slot hub. It also reduces pressure to drain a battery deeply just to finish one more line. Compare the full package, not only the number in the bundle name. Retail listings can differ by controller, goggles, hub, spare propellers, and charging accessories. Storage, care, and airline travel

Smart-battery management removes some guesswork, but it does not make the pack maintenance-free. DJI says an Avata 2 battery left idle automatically discharges to about 96% after three days and to about 60% after nine days. Some warmth during automatic discharge is normal. DJI also advises fully charging the battery at least once every three months.
