For a HOVERAir X1 PRO hand launch, unfold the aircraft, hold it level on an open palm, select the intended mode and press the power button. Release it as the propellers accelerate. To palm land, wait until it is nearby, then hold your palm about 20 cm directly underneath and let it descend. Keep fingers outside the guards and wait for the propellers to stop.
Those are the basic movements in HOVERAir's Quick Start Guide. The part to settle before takeoff is how your selected mode ends: bringing the camera back within reach and landing on your hand are separate actions.

Prepare a place where you can retrieve it comfortably
Start with a charged, activated aircraft and an updated Hover X1 app. HOVERAir's Safety Instructions require checks of the battery, propellers, protective frame, motors and gimbal. Keep the underside sensors clean and unobstructed. Damage, a loose component or an unresolved warning is a reason to postpone the flight.
For practice, choose open, well-lit ground with visible texture and little wind. Stand still with clear space around your arm, the aircraft and its planned route. Avoid a first attempt beside a wall, under branches or near other people. The safety manual prohibits takeoff from moving objects, including vehicles and boats, and says the aircraft lacks omnidirectional obstacle avoidance.
Check the landing area as carefully as the shot. Can you stand there securely with a hand free? Could someone walk into it? Is there a clear place for a normal landing if you need to end the flight? These questions are more useful for this exercise than choosing a dramatic background.
If activation or charging is unfinished, use the HOVERAir X1 PRO first-flight setup guide first. For an exposed location, assess the wind and your retrieval position before deciding to launch.
Check firmware, mode and the way the flight ends
As checked September 10, 2026, HOVERAir's release notes list X1 PRO/PROMAX v8.4.15, dated August 6, 2026. They list Palm Recall as an addition in v8.4.12. Updates roll out gradually, so compare the aircraft's installed version with the app's offered update; a release-note listing does not establish what is installed on your unit.
Palm Recall is a gesture feature for bringing the camera back. It should not be confused with placing a hand beneath a nearby aircraft to land it. The release notes do not supply a complete gesture procedure. If you intend to use Recall, complete the tutorial available for your installed version before relying on it outdoors.
- Choose Hover for the first practice cycle. This is a conservative starting recommendation: keep the exercise about launch and retrieval before adding a moving subject.
- Confirm the mode on the aircraft screen. Short presses of the select button switch modes. Holding the select button opens parameter adjustment; check the displayed values before starting. Do not assume the last user's settings suit your location.
- Identify the ending procedure. For an automatic flight, learn how that mode finishes or requests a return. If using app manual control, know its landing and return controls before launch. Review any changed app labels against the current tutorial.
The official X1 PRO support page links the current manuals, app downloads and user tutorial. Use the PRO documentation: search results also surface instructions for the original X1.
Hand launch, then check the aircraft before moving
- Unfold the aircraft fully and support it horizontally on your open hand. Keep fingers out of the propeller area.
- Check the displayed mode, then briefly press the power button to start.
- As the propellers accelerate, release the aircraft and clear your supporting hand. Do not throw it or keep gripping the frame.
- Watch the initial flight. Confirm it is doing what you selected before adding movement or concentrating on framing.
The button and release sequence comes from the Quick Start Guide, steps 5–7. Treat the last step as your practical check: a successful motor start alone does not establish that the whole flight is ready.
For a useful rehearsal, keep your position, complete one short flight and retrieve the aircraft. Change only one setting on the next attempt. That makes it easier to identify whether a change in behavior came from the mode, its parameters or the surroundings.
Palm land only after it is within comfortable reach
Let the selected mode complete or use its documented return/landing command. Once the aircraft is nearby and you are standing securely, present an open palm about 20 cm directly below it. Hold your hand steady while it descends, and wait until the propellers stop before handling it. This is the normal landing sequence in step 6 of the manual.
A hand held out across the field is not the same input as a palm under the aircraft. If it is still flying its route, use that mode's documented ending procedure first. If it does not descend onto your hand, avoid reaching into the guards or repeatedly moving your palm toward the propellers. Use a normal landing through the controls you learned before takeoff, then inspect the aircraft and review the instructions on the ground.
For example, HOVERAir's Cycling Mode instructions describe configurable landing methods, including remaining stationary for three seconds or using a gesture. That is mode-specific guidance, not a universal timer for every flight. Stop riding and establish a clear retrieval position before trying to palm land. The walking, running and cycling settings guide covers the activity choices after basic handling is familiar.
Common mistakes and when to end the attempt
- Trying to solve a warning with repeated launches. Read the displayed error and resolve it first. HOVERAir identifies steady yellow with an error message as a malfunction indication.
- Confusing a return request with a completed landing. Watch the aircraft's response. Resume palm retrieval only when its position allows it; do not assume a gesture was recognized.
- Following it with your hand while it is still moving away. Pause the practice and use the mode's documented ending procedure. Review the mode and settings after landing instead of improvising near spinning propellers.
- Waiting through a battery or wind alert. The safety manual directs immediate landing for low-battery or strong-wind warnings. Do not prolong the flight to achieve a palm landing.
The Safety Instructions also say to discontinue use after severe accidents or abnormal flight behavior. A repeatable fault needs support, not a more forceful catch.
Know where the emergency motor-stop instructions are before flying: they are separate from routine landing in the Quick Start Guide. Do not practice grabbing or flipping a flying aircraft as your normal retrieval method.
Finish one controlled cycle before adding a tracking shot
Your first useful result is simple: the selected mode starts, the aircraft behaves as expected, you can bring it into a suitable retrieval position, and the motors stop after landing. If any part is unclear, repeat the stationary exercise after correcting it. Add walking or a different camera move only when you can explain how you will end that next flight.
