HOVERAir X1 PRO App Guide: Controls, Modes, and Essential Settings

The HOVERAir X1 PRO app handles connection, flight-mode settings, live preview, manual flying and footage downloads. Start by connecting on the Hover page, configure the mode you intend to use, then check its framing in Smart Preview. Bluetooth discovery and Wi-Fi transfer are separate steps, so seeing the aircraft in the app does not mean an album download is ready.

For a first setup, complete activation and updates on the ground, choose a simple shot, and prove that you can record, land and download it before planning a longer session.

Install the official app and connect the aircraft

Use the app links in the X1 PRO support center. The US iPhone listing is named Hover - Self Flying Camera, from Hangzhou Zero Zero Technology Co., Ltd. It currently requires iOS 14 or later. Older manuals give a lower iOS minimum; use the current store requirement for installation. On Android, check the official download's compatibility with your phone.

Have the aircraft and phone charged, internet access for installation and updates, and free phone storage for a sample clip. Inspect the aircraft before flying, including its guards, propellers and battery attachment. You can do the connection and settings work with the aircraft grounded.

  1. Power on the X1 PRO and open the app's Hover page.
  2. Enable Bluetooth and the permissions requested for connection. HOVERAir's activation guide specifically calls for Bluetooth and location permission.
  3. Search for the nearby aircraft and select it. If pairing mode is needed, hold both aircraft select buttons until the status light turns blue.
  4. For a new aircraft, complete the app's activation prompts. Confirm that its connected page shows the aircraft's status before proceeding.

The pairing sequence is documented in the September 2025 Quick Start Guide, pages 10–11. A useful connection check is whether the app reports the aircraft's battery and storage; a phone's Bluetooth list alone does not prove that the app session is ready.

Check the app and aircraft firmware separately

As of September 6, 2026, the manufacturer's release notes list X1 PRO firmware v8.4.15, dated August 6, 2026. The US iPhone listing shows app 3.3.1. Those are different version numbers for different software; neither tells you what is installed on your own device.

Update the phone app through its official distribution route. With the aircraft powered on and connected, follow the firmware update prompt, keep it powered throughout, and allow its restart to finish. Then reconnect and inspect the settings you plan to use. HOVERAir notes that firmware rollouts are gradual, so a release-note entry can appear before an update reaches an individual aircraft.

Two changes explain many mismatched tutorials: Side Track became Angle Track in the v8.2.7 aircraft release and app v2.36.0, while v8.4.12 added Palm Recall. Follow the tutorial supplied for your installed version before using a new gesture. Shared app release notes also cover other aircraft, so a newly listed feature is not automatically an X1 PRO feature.

Find the right controls for the task

HOVERAir's getting-started guide documents these routes. Labels can move between app versions; look for the function named below.

Smart Preview helps you compose an automatic shot. Manual Control asks you to pilot the aircraft. Decide which job you need before takeoff, rather than learning the control layout while a shot is already under way.

Choose a mode, then change its parameters

The first choice is the camera movement you want. In HOVERAir's flight-mode guide, Hover holds position, Follow tracks from behind, Dolly Track works from in front, and Angle Track provides an offset tracking view. Zoom Out moves away to reveal the surroundings; Bird's Eye creates an overhead view.

Orbit and 360° Spin need different space. Orbit carries the aircraft around the subject. Spin rotates it in place. A clear view from the camera does not establish clearance for an entire orbit.

  1. Open Hover Settings and select the mode that matches the shot.
  2. Read its current tutorial, including any mode-specific prerequisites.
  3. Set the available distance and height options to fit the space you have inspected. A longer or higher setting is not inherently a better shot.
  4. Choose the shooting settings for that mode, then return to its page and check the selections.
  5. Check the aircraft's displayed mode before launch. After recording a short sample, change one setting at a time.

For example, if an otherwise usable shot makes you too small in the frame, inspect the selected distance and framing before switching tracking modes. If the intended flight path crosses a tree or building, changing image settings cannot solve that problem; change the shot or location.

Set the camera for a clip you can actually use

Open Hover Settings → flight mode → Shooting Mode. As a straightforward starting recommendation, choose normal video, an available resolution and frame rate your phone can play, and automatic exposure. Make a short sample before adjusting ISO, exposure compensation or shutter speed through Smart Preview or Manual Control.

The camera settings guide covers both PRO and PROMAX, so check model labels carefully. X1 PRO slow motion reaches 1080p at 120 fps. The model specifications list a 4K maximum video resolution and Standard 8-bit color for PRO. Do not look for 8K, 4K/120 slow motion or the PROMAX's HDR, HLG and H-Log options on this aircraft.

If you change resolution, frame rate, codec or image treatment, download another sample and play it in the app you intend to use for editing or sharing. Inspect motion, faces and highlights. Successful playback is more useful than choosing the largest number in a menu.

Keep sound recording and video export together

For phone-recorded audio, open Hover → Sound Recording and choose light or deep noise reduction. Keep the screen on and the app in the foreground while recording. Download through the Hover app to combine video with the phone's sound, then check speech in the exported clip.

A video file copied directly from aircraft storage should not be assumed to include sound recorded on the phone. Test the export route you will actually use.

Check manual-control safety settings before flying

In the September 2025 safety manual, the connection-loss setting is at Manual Control → settings gear → Operation Settings → Safety Settings. It offers Hover or Return to Home. Read the selected behavior before launch and assess where the aircraft would wait or return if communication stopped.

For a manual flight, also inspect the return-altitude setting and the route back to takeoff. Return behavior does not make a blocked route safe. The manual says the aircraft lacks omnidirectional obstacle avoidance, and instructs the operator to land immediately on a low-battery or strong-wind warning.

For initial checks, use a clear, well-lit area with visible ground texture. Keep the aircraft in sight. If OmniTerrain is not ready, avoid water, cliffs and other difficult positioning environments identified by the manual. Do not deliberately disconnect control or exhaust the battery to test a safety response.

The HOVERAir X1 PRO review and obstacle-sensing limits gives broader context for what the aircraft's sensing can and cannot do.

Verify one complete recording before a longer session

Treat a short, uneventful sample as the final setup check. You need a usable file as well as a working connection.

  1. Confirm the connected aircraft, selected mode, battery, storage and clear flight area.
  2. Check framing, record a short sample, and bring the aircraft to a suitable landing position. For the manual's palm-landing procedure, hold your hand about 20 cm directly beneath it and keep fingers outside the guards.
  3. Open the aircraft album and complete the Wi-Fi connection when prompted.
  4. Download the clip. Check its framing, motion, exposure and sound in the intended playback app.
  5. Once landed, reconnect and revisit the mode settings before the next take.

The Quick Start Guide distinguishes Bluetooth thumbnails from Wi-Fi downloads. Seeing a thumbnail does not mean the full clip has been saved on the phone. Confirm that the file plays locally before deleting anything from the aircraft.

If a step fails, fix that step first

  • No aircraft found: check power, Bluetooth permission and the manual's blue-light pairing procedure. Retry nearby while grounded.
  • Aircraft visible, album unavailable: finish the aircraft Wi-Fi connection requested by the app. Bluetooth discovery alone is insufficient for downloading.
  • A mode seems missing: check Change Flight Modes, the installed versions and the current name. Look for Angle Track when an older tutorial says Side Track.
  • An image setting is missing: check the selected shooting mode and the PRO model's limits before assuming an app fault.
  • Downloaded video has no phone audio: review Sound Recording, foreground operation and the app export route.

If the problem persists, note the phone model, operating system, app and aircraft versions, exact error and step that failed for HOVERAir support. Avoid changing several settings at once or deleting original footage while troubleshooting.

The most useful initial setup is one you can repeat: a recognized aircraft, the intended shot, understood safety behavior and a downloaded clip that looks and sounds right. Expand the shot only after that sequence works.
